To his self-deprecating astonishment he's also been nominated for the Story South’s Million Writers Award twice without sending the judges so much as a thank you note. He co-edited the satiric transgressive fiction collection D*CKED: DARK FICTION INSPIRED BY DICK CHENEY and his debut novel KOKO TAKES A HOLIDAY is out now from Titan Books. Kieran divides his time between 38°58′22.6″N- 76°30′4.17″W and 39.2775° N, 74.5750° W.

You Suck: Calling It Like It Is

This morning Steve Weddle tweeted an announcement about Charlie Stella's new "first reader" service for fiction. Brilliant idea and certainly not the first out there...rated fees for manuscripts and lengths. So what's different about it? Well, for one thing I'm pretty sure Mr. Stella will not be gentle. The man writes some of the blackest crime fiction available, so you better believe he'll call bullshit when he sees it. First readers (especially when a relationship or friendship is in the balance) can hold back...so unless you're sleeping with Charlie or frequently buying him a veal parmigiana sandwich expect Brooklyn frankness on par with a slap across the face. As writers it's paramount that the lens be clear, right? So, what are you waiting for? You got the sand to lay your dreck on the line? Go here.
