He co-edited the satiric transgressive fiction collection D*CKED: DARK FICTION INSPIRED BY DICK CHENEY and his debut novel KOKO TAKES A HOLIDAY is out now from Titan Books. Got Books? The Summer So Far...

Recently my niece showed me the cover a of book she chose for summer. It was one of several choices on a school-sanctioned reading list and she had to pick one book from this array, read it, and write a paper about it for the Fall semester. I didn't say a word, but thought...one book? Just one? When did the number drop so low? I remember when it was, like, ten. Real ball-busting stuff like Dee Brown, the histories of Bill Shakespeare, the classics, and a bunch of bitter Russians getting all wordy because of some bad cabbage. Dang. Anyway, just about wrapping up my beach fix for the early part of summer and I thought that I'd share what I powered down on my time out of the water and away from Mack & Manco's, Gillian's, the grill, and the nap zone. No fancy pants stuff for me, but good stuff just the same: WAR - Sebastian Junger; THE LITTLE SLEEP - Paul Tremblay; IMPERIAL BEDROOMS - Brett Easton Ellis; SPEAK NO EVIL - Martyn Waites; EXPIRATION DATE - Duane Swierczynski; HOW TO ROB AN ARMORED CAR - Iain Levison; GALLOWS - Bob Randisi; NO MERCY - Lori Armstrong; TOTAL IMMUNITY- Robert Ward; THE ENGLISH MAJOR - Jim Harrison; COLD CORPSE, HOT TRAIL - Peter Brandvold; GRAND CAYMAN SLAM - Randy Wayne White; COSMIC BANDITOS (a re-read for shits and giggles) A. C. Weisbecker; and GOT FIGHT? - Forrest Griffin/Erich Krauss.
