Wow, who knew Joe Pike would ever be portrayed as so, um, gangsta. From the smokin' hot LA Times Magazine crime fiction issue. As I once told Steve Weddle, in a fictitious world there's no one else I would call if I ever found myself in a jam. The baddest vegetarian on the planet. Great reading with the dynamic duo of Ms. Gran and Ms. Abbott in this issue too so get on it, crime junkies. If only other major newspapers would rock an issue like this. Are you listening, New York Times? Onward.

From my experience of Joe Pike (one novel, L.A Requiem) he's big enough, but too gruffy. He's a guy who rivals Jack Reacher in the no-default department, so I'd polish the pretty boy appearance, but otherwise. He's pretty much how I saw him.
Really? Well, now there's a throw-down. Only read one (ahem) Reacher novel, and that was his first--THE KILLING FLOOR. Hmm, Pike vs. Reacher. I'd say based on my cursory knowledge of Reacher his advantages and skill are more in the realm of mental. Sure, he's physical but Pike? He's one hell of a pit bull. Too little knowledge of Child's character on my part to dissect further. What I've always dug about Pike is loyalty to a what I believe is a pure humanist agenda. Then again, what do I know....thanks for stopping by, Ben.
You have a suggestion of a Pike novel I can read where he's a little more human?
So true. The Times is stodgier than ever.
Ben: I thought THE FIRST RULE went a bit deeper with Pike.
On it like a fat kid on cake. Thank you sir.
